About Me
Hello! A little bit about me, Amber. First I work with dogs and I work with people. As a licensed clinical therapist and a certified dog trainer, I merge the understanding of dog behavior and human behavior to assist people in training and managing their beloved pets.
I started this journey in collage, obtaining an undergraduate degree in psychology research. A significant amount of what we know about human behavior, began by studying and learning animal behavior, specifically, dog behavior.
Both my fields of study allow me to work within the bounds of human/dog relationship, and understanding expectations of pet behavior within the family and societal settings. Essentially, I help dog owners establish a well behaved dog and a close bonded relationship.
I obtained my training, certification and continued education through AbsoluteDogs™. All my methods of training dogs is games based. Though this is a positive form of training, in order to maintain optimal emotional wellbeing, it is not just positive reinforcement based training. Instead, games are used as a means to teach transferable behavioral skills and concepts to dogs, so you both can live a life of happiness, well being, and safety.
Mission
My mission is to:
~ build and maintain a positive and well bonded relationship between people and their dogs, while teaching dogs how to behave appropriately, through fun and practical methods that work.
~ advocate for the well-being of dogs and people by using training methods that are scientifically proven and aligned with LIMA standards.
~ help make your life and your dog’s life easier together.
~ New Puppies! We all love puppies. And I want to help start your journey with the best chance for success with your puppy. We want to begin training young before behaviors become issues.
~ Bathroom training. While toilet training is typically a puppy issues. older dogs can experience issues with inappropriate toileting. I work with you and your dog to manage and correct toileting issues.
Issues
~ Recall and proximity. I want to help you teach your dog to stay close by when off leash, and to recall easily to you. Guess what? No remote, shock or correction collar needed!
~ Human and dog reactivity. Dogs who experience fear or frustration can engage in reactive behaviors, such as barking, lunging and growling. I want to help your dog be able to tolerate encountering humans and other dogs without feeling fear or frustration. We work within two lenses. Managing emotions that are driving your dog’s behaviors and the behaviors presenting.
~ Socialization. I want to help your puppy or adult dog appropriately socialize with the world around them. People, other dogs, and other animals.
~ Noise and other fears and reactivities. I help you treat and manage noise reactivity. Doorbells, fireworks, people’s voices, neighbor’s dog barking can all cause your dog to bark, whine, shake, pace and pant in anxiety. I want to help you training and treat fearful emotions and reactive behaviors.
~ General enrichment and correcting behaviors related to boredom. I teach enrichment methods and management.
~ Calmness. Does your dog spin circles in the living room, jump excitedly, grab items and run around the house, experience zoomies frequently, generally seem spastic and unable to settle? I want to help you teach your dog calmness and settle.
~ General basic skills. I want to help you teach your dog general needed life skills. crate training, long stay on a bed or boundary, left and right heel. It’s beyond sit and stay.
